ABOUT DUANGPORN ‘BO’SONGBISVA
Thai food extraordinaire Duangporn (Bo) Songvisava is not only a remarkable chef but also a visionary and advocate for home-grown, traditional techniques that keep food authentic.
After working in Bangkok restaurant Cy’an, Bo started her culinary journey in London, working under the talented David Thompson at his highly acclaimed restaurant, Nahm. Here, Bo met her now husband and business partner Dylan Jones, and together worked to achieve their dream of opening a truly remarkable Thai Restaurant in Bo’s homeland. In 2009, they achieved this dream and opened Bo.lan.
Since its opening, Chef Bo has been raising awareness on the important issues regarding Thai food and food security, with their goal to reclaim and revive farming techniques and recipes nearly forgotten in the globalization of popular Thai food. Her rewards and success were discovered quickly, with the restaurant being recognised with a Michelin Star and currently holds the number 19 spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
In addition, Bo was also presented with the inaugural award for Asia’s Best Female Chef as part of The 50 Best Restaurants in Asia Awards and was featured in an incredible episode of Netflix’s most recent season of Chef’s Table. Despite all the accolades and recognition, Chef Bo’s one true goal in the kitchen is one thing and one thing only: to cook for the sake of food.
