With a record-setting of 44,571 finishers in 2018, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is the fourth-largest race by number of finishers worldwide. Run by elite athletes and leisure runner alike, this celebrated marathon is one of the six World Marathon Majors, alongside the Boston, New York, London, Berlin, and Tokyo Marathons.

Starting at and finishing in Grant Park, the flat and fast 26.2 mile course takes participants through 29 neighborhoods, passing 1.7 million excited spectators and supporters.

2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Course and Race Details

About the Event

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is held every October in Chicago, Illinois.
Alongside the Boston, New York, London, Berlin, and Tokyo Marathons, it is one of the six World Marathon Majors. This well-known elite marathon is the fourth-largest race by number of finishers worldwide.

Course Map

Starting and ending at the Grant Park, the 26.2 miles race course loop is divided into three sections: North, West, and South. It features three of the city’s main stadiums are near the course’s turning points.

Course Time Limit

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon has a course time limit of 6 hours and 30 minutes. After this time, the course will re-open to vehicular traffic. You must maintain an approximate 15-minute per mile pace to complete the full marathon distance.

  • 08:56 am: Wheelchair competitors

  • from 07:30 to 8:35 am: Runners (in three waves)

Expo

The Abbott Health & Fitness Expo features more than 180 exhibitors offering Bank of America Chicago Marathon merchandise and the latest in running footwear, apparel, nutrition and technology. Additionally, the Health & Fitness Expo is the home of participant packet pick-up for all Marathon participants. Held at Chicago’s McCormick Place, the two-day Expo is free and open to the public.
